James F. Battey, M.D., Ph.D.
Following the film, Dr. James F. Battey, director of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication
Disorders (NIDCD) at the NIH, led a discussion and took questions from the audience. The NIDCD conducts and supports
research in the processes of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, and language. Formerly the acting director,
Dr. Battey was appointed director of NIDCD in February 1998. Dr. Battey, who has served the NIH since 1983 including
as the director of NIDCD's Division of Intramural Research, also serves as an adjunct professor at the George Washington
University School of Medicine.
