John Parascandola, Ph.D.

Following the film, Dr. John Parascandola, Public Health Service Historian, National Library of Medicine (NLM), led a discussion and took questions from the audience. Dr. Parascandola, a historian of medicine and science, previously taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and served as Chief of NLM's History of Medicine Division. He has published extensively on the history of biomedical science, and more recently has focused his research on the history of the Public Health Service. He is currently engaged in a study of the PHS venereal disease education films of the 1940s.
